Recognition, Not Diagnosis

Learn to spot how ADHD and executive-functioning challenges show up in daily life and in session — and exactly when to refer. Everything stays squarely within social work scope.

Culturally Responsive by Design

Understand how masking, stigma, and systemic barriers delay recognition — especially for Black women and marginalized communities — taught carefully and without stereotyping.

About the course

Beyond the Diagnosis helps Ohio social workers recognize and support ADHD in the people they serve — with the cultural context standard training often leaves out. Importantly, it does not train you to diagnose ADHD; it builds your ability to notice, understand, and respond within your professional scope. By the end of the course, you will be able to: 1. Describe how ADHD presents across gender and development, including how masking delays recognition. 2. Explain how systemic and cultural factors are associated with under-recognition — accurately, and without stereotyping. 3. Identify how executive-functioning challenges show up in daily life and in sessions. 4. Apply strengths-based, stigma-aware support. 5. Determine appropriate referral and scope boundaries.
